Update on my novel, Buried in Grains of Rice. Currently in a revision process under the guidance of novelist Susan Straight.

Story:

Elise Angela Tran was a model student: brilliant, charming and diligent. An honors student by day, the president of the Iron Chef club by night, Elise pushes herself to be a future anesthesiologist, as well as to win Top Chef: Special Edition, a competition that invites couples from Southern California Colleges.

While everything was going fine, a break-in occurs in a house a few blocks from the UCR campus, and Elise dies. Weeks later, the victim's roommate Mercedes finds a mysterious note suggesting that Elise had been targeted. Mercedes teams up with another friend and investigates the past and present, learning of Elise's connection to Asian gangs and underground organizations. Ultimately, the team reveals the darker nature of Asian Americans.

The work is greatly informed by my own research on the millennial generation, such as a paper I wrote "Watching the Times: Prospects for a New Age of Asian Americans."
